Vulpes The fennec fox's ears are so big (often nearly half the length of its body!) because they help it stay cool in the desert. They're packed full of blood vessels, allowing excess body heat to scatter into the surrounding air, functioning a lot like radiators. The ears also provide extremely acute hearing, helping the fox detect prey up to several inches beneath the sand. (1 day ago) |
