Some of my thoughts and feelings about s&box and it's recent release.
A lot of these are quasi hyperbolic but for the most part I would say most people would agree with this sentiment, which I've been thinking about for quite a long time now. Though the exception proves the rule, im sure it will get better, I HOPE! I really want the game to be huge so maybe I am biased.

gmod 2 is out baby!
GMOD WINS
I bought the game with the full intention of making my own game and I was going to spend a few months doing so. However, the game editor is so annoying to use. I wish it was more like the Roblox Studio or even just like Gmod, it's sort of off to the side and it massively incentivizes these terrible "text based" AI games that everyone churns out.
There's also something to be said of the lack of creativity that people possess and the lack of patience, I just don't think many people exist any more that existed in the early days of Gmod or Flash. Nobody wants to go ahead and contribute loads to the framework when they know a bunch of people are only there to try to make money using their assets they spent time on.
You also have the issue that right now Gmod is far superior in every way, there are way more mods, way more servers and game modes to choose from. You also have the problem that it'll never be as good as Roblox in terms of investment so it's stuck in-between niches.

@Bob Just to add: When everyone was going from Gmod to FiveM when it became popular, I remember that I was questioning why the RP server I played wasn't going over to FiveM. Then someone told me: "Because in FiveM the player isn't free to build their own house/base. You're restricted by what you as a player can do."
That's exactly where S&box is getting it wrong, there is no control to the player in most if not all of the games right now. You can't just pick up a physgun and create stuff, the person who made the game is the one making the stuff in a super boring way. If there was a flood of games that allowed you to create stuff in 3D in a variety of game modes, it might be okay.

video aside, 1984 rp would honestly be kinda cool
i tend to find that hl2 rp servers are extremely bloated, like 20gb downloads just to suck or not run on my ancient hardware. i feel like you would run one well

@artemis I've thought about that for a long ass time, just like a vanilla, minimal download darkrp server on downtown v2. NO ONE wants to install a billion addons to just get instant banned for rdm.
there will never be another game like Garry's mod
@wadwasd because that came out in 2009-2010 and went mainstream 2011-2012 while Gmod was out in 2006 so for 4 or 5 years Gmod was the only sandbox game. Obviously very different games at the core and could co-exist, but for 3D PC Sandbox you had Gmod, which gave you freedom, and nothing else for a decent chunk of the 2000s.
Sandbox > Garry's mod

this thing will never beat garry's mod, none's gonna do re run for all the addons exists for gmod. Besides there are tons of ways to upgrade gmod graphics and what not without swapping it to source 2
